Best smart watch that I have by far

Different and impressive

If you’re reading this review, then I think it would be fair to assume that you’re at least considering buying one, so I’ll start my review by answering a couple of questions that you’re probably wanting answers to:-
1) No – I don’t NEED a Smartwatch
2) YES – Smartwatches are a bit of a toy/gadget, but they can be genuinely useful.
3) YES – The battery life is rubbish (compared to a “normal” watch)
I’ve been deciding which Smartwatch to buy for a while, now. I narrowed it down to two. I love the look of the Moto360 but just cannot get past that “flat tyre” on the bottom of the display. It would do my OCD bulb in!
Also, its inferior battery (320mAh) put me off.
So, I’ve bitten the bullet and gone for this one – the LG Urbane, which is (in my opinion) the best Smartwatch available at this moment in time.
Tip - Before you do ANYTHING with this watch, make sure your ‘phone is connected to wifi/3g/4g as you set it up and go through the pairing process. This way it will be updated to the latest build/firmware (as it will be an older build straight from the box)
First of all, and lets be clear on this. It’s big. Very big.
Now, I love big watches (got a couple of Seiko divers and an Omega), but even I was a bit surprised about the physical size of the thing! I do really like the way it looks. (Obviously - I bought one.)
The leather strap is nice, if a little stiff at first, but soon softens (helped a little by flexing it through your fingers repeatedly before wearing it)
The screen is lovely, and comments about the 245pixels per inch not being high enough, or that it’s “grainy” are ridiculous. Folks have become obsessed with numbers. On a device this size (1.3” 320 x 320 pixels) 245ppi is more than enough to give a lovely, clear display. Text is smooth and clear.
I’m a gadget freak, and bought this with my eyes very much wide open knowing full well the limitations both of the hardware and the software.
That said, it really is a great thing. The Android wear on this (5.1.1) is really intuitive, and after I’d played around with the watch for a bit I found it was extremely easy to control and navigate around it. (I can’t comment on previous versions of AW as I’ve never used any others)
A couple of “tips” I have come across and think are very useful.
Use the button on the side.
Double push for theater mode (turns screen off).
Triple click for brightness boost (ideal if it’s extremely sunny and you quickly want to see the time without entering and navigating menus)
I don’t constantly “play” with this watch, and so on one charge I can easily get 3 days wear out of it. Sometimes, more. (Screen on all the time, brightness on lowest [1 of 6], receiving SMS etc) The charging of it is very fast (around an hour) and how often is anybody far away from a charging point anyway nowadays?
There is no GPS on the watch, but this would have killed the battery, and is a feature I have no interest in anyway.
One other thing that the Urbane doesn’t have (but should’ve had!) is an ambient light sensor. Why LG omitted that, I have no idea? My workaround is to have it on it’s dimmest setting(1) which is fine indoors, and then use the “brightness boost” when I’m outdoors and want to have a quick look at the time. No big issue.
The “always on” feature is great, and means that it really does look like an ordinary watch in its “idle” state. Most people would have no idea that it’s a Smartwatch until the notifications appear. To conserve battery life further, the screen can be blank (off) when not in active use, but for me, it kind of loses the point of being a watch if you have to push a button to see the time! Plus, looking at a round black empty screen just looks rubbish.
The Urbane comes with plenty of great stock watch faces (20 of them) to choose from, and there are limitless possibilities from the PlayStore, or you can even make them yourself with the help of an app.(see Facer or WatchMaker in the PlayStore)
As with any kind of “emerging tech”, I’m sure this watch will be superseded very quickly with the race for quicker processors, longer lasting batteries, higher screen resolutions, GPS, etc.etc.
In time I can see this type of tech being properly amazing.
With its price tag of £250, it’s not what I’d call cheap or a bargain, but you've got to remember that you’re paying for the “newness” of both the tech and the LG Urbane itself.
Watch (no pun intended) the prices tumble over the coming months!
Right now the LG Urbane (and all other Smartwatches) do have their limitations, (battery life, AndroidWear being in its infancy, quite large formfactors) BUT as long as your expectations are set appropriately, you won’t be disappointed by the LG Urbane Watch.

An amazing smart watch with a premium look of a real watch!
Recensito nel Regno Unito il 29 novembre 2015
Had been looking for a smart watch for some time but wanted something which looked more like a watch than a piece of tech on my hand. Had my eyes on the Urbane as it looks much closer to a watch than other smart watches. Managed to pick it up in the Lightening deals before black friday for only £120.99 (inc NUS discount), and with Same Day Delivery at no extra cost.
I have to say I love this watch!!
I was worried it would be big on me as I have small wrists but it is actually fine. It is on the larger side but doesn't look too big at all. The watch has some really nice dials preloaded and you can download so many other amazing dials too. Many reviews stated the watch strap to be extremely uncomfortable and stiff but I thought it was fine. It is a strong belt, which once you flex it about and wear it in for a couple of days it is just fine (actually rather nice!).
The functions are nice too - haven't found any issues with it. The screen is of a good size and very responsive. The screen is sharp and the deep blacks really do make it look very nice - almost as if you are wearing a real analogue watch.
The "ok google" voice function works really well. I like that I can leave my phone aside or in my pocket and I know from my wrist if I get any messages and if its worth taking out my phone to reply, or see who's calling etc. It integrates very nicely with Google Now. So far I cannot fault the watch.
The battery life I have found it lasts me 2 days easily. I have it on the lowest brightness setting and I have the screen always on as I like to be able to look at my watch which is showing the time opposed to a blank screen. I use it quite a bit and still get 2 days use out of it without a problem.
The way you can flick your wrist to scroll through the notifications is also really nice and handy as you can do it without having to touch the screen.
The build quality is very premium. I cannot fault it. It has a nice casing and really does look the part.
I personally would not pay £200 for it as like other reviewers have stated, smart watches do still have a way to go, but at £120 I thought it was a steal!
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good smart watch which looks like a watch as well.

Wait 'til Google improve the software
Recensito nel Regno Unito il 16 agosto 2015
The hardware is really nice, the best I have seen for smart watches but the software is nearly useless. If you have your phone configuration set to not splash text message content on the lock screen you'll get the comical request to reply to a message on the watch but be unable to read it.
Also, I killed the battery on this in the few hours it took me to decide to return it.

A nice thing to have
Recensito nel Regno Unito il 14 marzo 2016
I looked around for a smart watch, knowing it is just another toy. one of the requirements was to have a HR monitor and it works reasonably well, I guess that it will not be as accurate as a chest strap but more due to the nature of the monitor than a problem with the watch model. This was a good trade off on price and performance. If i had got one of the £100 ones it would not have worked well enough but if I had spent £300+ i don't think i would have gained much either. So at £169 it was a good trade off between price and performance, for me.
Overall the watch looks ok, it is a little bit big but not excessively so on a man's wrist. It will look odd on a woman's wrist though, but then all of the others that I looked at would be the same.
I have got used to charging it at night, it usually has 60% charge left at the end of the day so I guess it could go another day if I needed it to. I only takes an hour or so to charge. The charger has a mini usb socket on it so the only dedicated to the watch bit is the magnetic cradle.
I have been using it as paired with a Samsung s4 mini (andriod) phone and it works well. I suspect it won't work well with an Apple phone. I can send a text while my phone is in my pocket. I can dial from the watch but I still need to speak into the phone, although I can do it as hands free. Some other apps are done on the watch but most are opened on the phone.
There are a dozen watch faces built in and there are apps ( both free and pay for) that can design a different watch face. I had a play with one but I have not really tried to change it much.
Overall it has been quite useful
